Individuals with intellectual disabilities, traumatic brain injuries, active psychosis, and autism spectrum disorders should seek out other therapists with specialization in those fields. People whose primary concern is active addiction with daily use should seek specialized addiction services with another provider until harm is reduced to the point where the individual can stay clean and sober enough to begin tackling emotional material without using. Individuals who are actively self-harming, homicidal or suicidal should call 9-1-1 immediately rather than making an appointment.
